g day guys I am back. today I am talking about my protagonist vs antagonist story. for literacy this week we have been learning about protagonists and antagonists. the first thing we did was watch one of the first films to figure out if the person was the protagonist or what one was the antagonist. then we had to start writing a story that involved conflict
I was a pupil at Marshland School and this blog is where I shared my learning. This blog has been archived, no further content will be uploaded or added. You are welcome to continue viewing posts, however commenting has been disabled.

making parachutes
G'day guys well comeback this week we have been making parachutes for our rockets that we are being that we had been doing from the inquiry. The materials that we used were a piece of fabric, tape, string, and two hex nut so it had a bit more weight to it. When we drop it off we had to make it the slowest so we win and we had to make it land the circle. For the test we did well we were making it was that we would drop it off a chair and see how fast it would we and if it was fast we would fix the parachute.

My website
Gday bloggers I am back with another blog post, today my blog post is about the website i have been making in literacy.
In literacy this term, we have been reading the book hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. For the final task on this book we had to make a website that covers over the characters, symbols, themes and genre. The first week we started off by doing the themes. The second week we did characters and this week we have been doing symbols. Next week we will be doing the last topic which is a genre.
ASCII code
Gday bloggers I am back with another blog post, ASCII is a set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols from the English language (like what is on our keyboard). I turned my initials into binary numbers, and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code! Using colours to represent the 1’s and 0’s, my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below!

Irony comic
Gday bloggers, For this terms inquiry, we have been looking at irony.
There are three different types of irony there is dramatic irony, situational irony and verbal irony. In a group of 2 or 3, we had to choose a type of irony and make a comic that uses that type of irony. My group chose verbal irony. Here is our comic.

Distance learning week 5
G'day bloggers I am back with another blog post.
Today I will be talking about the 90-second art I did for my Friday task. We got to chose out of 4 different Friday tasks to do today. We could choose from making a comic strip, designing a cake, animals in suburbia and 90-second art which I chose to do.
To do the 90-second art we used this website called Colour Push which has a 90-second timer and you create a piece of art in that time. After doing that you had to pick a creative way to share it and I did a pic collage. Here it is.

distance learning week 3
G' day bloggers
This week I have been doing lots of tasks for literacy and numeracy but today I am going to talk about the Friday tasks.
For today's tasks, we had three choices. the first choice was to draw a made-up animal. The second choice was to find out why there are no purple flags and then create a flag. The task I chose to do was make a food truck.
For the food truck task, we had to decide what food we would sell if we had to open a food truck. after that, we had to draw the design of our food truck, come up with a name for our food truck, write a small menu, design a logo and design an apron.
Here is a photo of my design.

Distance Learning Day 5
G'day bloggers
Today's home learning has involved more numeracy tasks with circles.
For literacy we had to create a "Mad Scientist" and write some ideas of his feelings and thoughts of how he sees the world.
We also had to work on creating a sundial this was quite tricky and is still a work in progress as I am measuring the sun shadow each hour to work out the times
Here is the drawing of my scientist.
that is all from me

Distance learning day 3
G'day Bloggers,
Today I have completed my numeracy and literacy tasks. I will be talking about my numeracy tasks.
For numeracy today we had to complete four measurement and estimation tasks. The first task was to make a paper plane and estimate how far it had flown and then measure to see the actual distance.
The second task was to see how high you could jump from a standstill then estimate how high I jumped before measuring to find out the actual measurement.
Task three was to see how far I could jump from a standing position then estimate how far I thought I jumped before measuring to get the actual distance.
Task four was to see how high I could jump while trying to reach as high as I can before following the same steps as above estimating how I high I got and get then finally the actual measurement.
Here are some photos of me completing the tasks...
Have a great weekend!

distance learning day 2
G'day bloggers, I am back with another blog post.
Today I have completed my numeracy and literacy tasks.
For literacy today we had to think of our favorite book, tv show, fairy tale, or movie and answer some questions regarding the theme or topic of the story and also create a poster.
The book I chose was Billionaire Boy by David Walliams. The idea of this book follows Joe Spud who is the richest kid in England and has everything he could ever want except a real friend.

Joe goes to a really expensive private school where people know how rich he is and only wants to be friends with him for his money. He decides to leave and go to a public school where he doesn’t tell anyone he is rich so he can try to make a true friend.
This book tries to remind us that money doesn’t always make you happy and friendship is more important than money.
My favorite part of numeracy today was when I went outside and measured the perimeter of my front yard.here is the picture I drew to show my working

distance learning day 1
Kia ora bloggers, today was my first day of distance learning.
Today I have made my daily schedule and completed some numeracy tasks.
For numeracy this term we are focusing on measurement. Today's tasks were to estimate how long a metre is. To do this I placed a pen on my starting point and then took one step guessing how long a metre may be.
Task two was to figure out how many minions and hand sanitizers could fit in your 2-metre social distance gap you can have five minions and 11 hand sanitizers could fit in the gap.
Task three was to find a couple items from around the house and see how many of them you could fit in the 2-metre social distancing gap I decided to measure my RC car and my Chromebook.
Finally, I did my daily schedule

lockdown life day 3
Kia ora bloggers, I am back with another blog post from the living room!
Today I decided that I would do some maths tasks. The first task I completed was Matific. I had never heard of Matific before so I didn't really know what to expect. I practiced mean, median and mode in new and challenging ways.
After Matific I did some speed skils on maths buddy. I focused on my multiplication and division.
I then listened to a David Walliams audiobook called "Trish the Troll". It was about a girl called Trish turned into a troll after calling mean names. I always enjoy David Walliams books and this one was no different!
ps.we ended up playing the game of life, not monopoly-Dad was the winner
see you soon.

Lockdown Life
Hi Guys, I am back with another blog post live from the living room!
Today I have filled my day with Sudokus, Kahoots, bike riding/exercise, and board games.
The first thing I did were some Sudokus, I have never really done Sudokus so it was a bit confusing to start off with but as I did more I figured out how it worked.
After lunch Mum, Dad and I had a Kahoot challenge, we did Kahoots on logos, movie characters, sports, and car brands. Dad sucked so we had lots of laughs!
It was good to get out in the fresh air for a bike ride. While we were out we sure lots of other families doing the same.
Next up it is the Monopoly challenge...I will tell you who wins tomorrow!
I hope you have had a great day see you tomorrow.

Waste essay draft
Hi bloggers
For literacy this week we had to write an essay draft about household food waste. This is my first ever essay. I think I did pretty good. Anyway here is my essay.
There are many types of waste, I am going to talk about Household food waste.
Every year New Zealand wastes around two billion dollars, all because we are
wasting food, so what can we do to prevent so much food being thrown out?
New Zealand studies show that the average household throws away three shopping trolleys worth of food in a year. This is the equivalent to 157,398 tonnes of rubbish and $1.17 billion worth of avoidable food waste. That amount of food could feed Dunedin for nearly three years!
People may not realize how much of a problem all this waste is because they don’t know its effects. When food is thrown in the bin they don’t see the harmful greenhouse gases that are going to be released into the landfill. Everyone needs to be responsible for cutting down on their waste.
Some good ways to cut down on your waste are…
Plan out your food meals for the week - this will equal less waste. If you still have leftovers go and donate it to your local food bank.
Store your food correctly, not storing your food correctly will end up with you throwing away food that has gone off because of incorrect storage. If you are unsure how to store foods look it up and it will tell you the correct way to store it.
Compost if you can, composting your leftovers is a beneficial way to reuse food scraps. Your food scraps will transform into energy for the plants.
By 2050 there are expected to be 9.7 billion people in the world. With 7.2 billion people now how bad will it be then? Globally, one-third of all food produced is wasted which is enough to feed 3 billion people.
