lockdown life day 3

Kia ora bloggers, I am back with another blog post from the living room!

Today I decided that I would do some maths tasks. The first task I completed was Matific. I had never heard of Matific before so I didn't really know what to expect. I practiced mean, median and mode in new and challenging ways.

After Matific I did some speed skils on maths buddy. I focused on my multiplication and division.

I then listened to a David Walliams audiobook called "Trish the Troll". It was about a girl called Trish turned into a troll after calling mean names. I always enjoy David Walliams books and this one was no different!

ps.we ended up playing the game of life, not monopoly-Dad was the winner

see you soon.

Lockdown Life

Hi Guys, I am back with another blog post live from the living room!

Today I have filled my day with Sudokus, Kahoots, bike riding/exercise, and board games.

The first thing I did were some Sudokus, I have never really done Sudokus so it was a bit confusing to start off with but as I did more I figured out how it worked.

After lunch Mum, Dad and I had a Kahoot challenge, we did Kahoots on logos, movie characters, sports, and car brands. Dad sucked so we had lots of laughs!

It was good to get out in the fresh air for a bike ride. While we were out we sure lots of other families doing the same.

Next up it is the Monopoly challenge...I will tell you who wins tomorrow!

I hope you have had a great day see you tomorrow.

Waste essay draft

Hi bloggers

For literacy this week we had to write an essay draft about household food waste. This is my first ever essay. I think I did pretty good. Anyway here is my essay.

There are many types of waste, I am going to talk about Household food waste.

Every year New Zealand wastes around two billion dollars, all because we are
wasting food, so what can we do to prevent so much food being thrown out?

New Zealand studies show that the average household throws away three shopping trolleys worth of food in a year. This is the equivalent to 157,398 tonnes of rubbish and $1.17 billion worth of avoidable food waste. That amount of food could feed Dunedin for nearly three years!

People may not realize how much of a problem all this waste is because they don’t know its effects. When food is thrown in the bin they don’t see the harmful greenhouse gases that are going to be released into the landfill. Everyone needs to be responsible for cutting down on their waste.

Some good ways to cut down on your waste are…

Plan out your food meals for the week - this will equal less waste. If you still have leftovers go and donate it to your local food bank.

Store your food correctly, not storing your food correctly will end up with you throwing away food that has gone off because of incorrect storage. If you are unsure how to store foods look it up and it will tell you the correct way to store it.

Compost if you can, composting your leftovers is a beneficial way to reuse food scraps. Your food scraps will transform into energy for the plants.

By 2050 there are expected to be 9.7 billion people in the world. With 7.2 billion people now how bad will it be then? Globally, one-third of all food produced is wasted which is enough to feed 3 billion people.
